The Key Stage 4 curriculum, Increased flexibility
and work-related learning

• Impetus for change in the White papers 1419
  Opportunity and excellence and in 2005, 1419
  Education and skill.
• School curriculum to be more flexible for 14 to
  16s in KS4
• To better meet the needs of all particularly
  those at risk of disenging
• To create time for alternative courses and give
  those who find oral and written communication
  difficult, the chance to study something more
  satisfying
• Aspects of the National Curriculum optional
  design and technology or a modern foreign
  language in Years 10 and 11
• From September 2004 all students to take part in
  WRL including enterprise education learn about
  work, learn skills for work, and learn through
  direct experience of work
• Collaboration between school, colleges and other
  providers encouraged, notably in the Increased
  Flexibility Programme
