Title: AubieSat1

1
AubieSat-1
2
AubieSat-1 Mission Overview
  • Launched through CalPoly
  • 1 kg mass
  • 10cm cube
  • 700 km altitude polar orbit
  • Low power/data rate

3
Launch Providers
  • ITC Kosmotras Dnepr, brokered by CalPoly for
    U.S.A. schools
  • Space-X or other startup
  • ESA
  • NASA

4
  • P-Pod holds 3 Cube-Sats.
  • The satellites are ejected from the tube, using a
spring plunger and travel on smooth flat rails.
  • Release is initiated when the deployers
spring-loaded door opens after the line is cut.

5
AubieSat-1 Mission Goals
  • To put Auburn on the map
  • Technology demonstration to show Auburn can
    produce reliable data from space
  • Set foundation for future student build satellite
missions, to perform real science missions

6
AubieSat-1 Subsystems
  • Satellite
  • Systems Engineering
  • Command Data Handling
  • Communications
  • Electrical Power
  • Payload
  • Mechanical Structure
  • Ground Station

7
Command Data Handling
  • Brains of the satellite
  • Controls the functions of the satellite
  • Executes commands from ground
  • Collects and stores data from satellite
    sensors and payload
  • Sends data to the ground
  • Real time operating system
  • Microprocessor at heart

8
Communications
  • Two parts
  • Primary
  • Secondary
  • Two dipole antennas for redundancy
  • Sends telemetry data for approximately 15 to 20
    minutes per day

9
Primary Communications
  • Communicates Telemetry data
  • Off the shelf radio at its heart
  • Power relay to control power to radio
  • Terminal node controller to convert digital to
    analog data

10
Secondary Communications
  • Just a receiver to act as a backup to the primary
    hardware
  • Done to satisfy FCC regulations to be able to
    terminate any transmission
  • Has some basic command and control of the
    satellite

11
Electrical Power System
  • Power generated by solar cells
  • Power stored in two lithium ion batteries
  • One voltage line
  • 5 Volts

12
Mechanical Structure
  • Provides structural support for electronics
  • Antenna deployment mechanism
  • Thermal analysis
  • Vibration analysis
  • Integration with CalPoly

13
Antenna Deployment Mechanism
  • Confines Dipole antennas during launch
  • Deploys antenna when in orbit

14
Internal Structure
15
Ground Station
  • Tracks and communicates with satellites
  • Displays data transmitted from the satellite on a
    computer

16
