ADMISSIONS
  • Hold a valid Texas Teachers Certificate
  • Hold a Masters degree or within 6 hours of
    completion at time of application
  • Have 2 years teaching experience at proficient or
    exceeds expectation level as documented by PDAS
  • Have an overall grade-point average of 2.5 or
    higher on a 4.0 system
  • Demonstrate oral skills through a successful
    interview
  • Demonstrate written skills through successful
    response to essay questions
  • Provide three letters of recommendation, one
    letter must be from the candidates principal or
    supervisor
  • Provide verification of outside work experience
    in counseling (if any)
  • Provide official transcripts (must be in sealed
    envelope)
  • Complete application

Curriculum
  • Two-year program
  • Semi-monthly sessions which will concentrate on
    counseling issues and techniques of counseling
  • 16 hours of graduate level coursework at the
    University of St. Thomas
  • One year Field-based Practicum
  • Portfolio case studies with rubric scoring system
    at proficient level
  • Counseling Summer Institute
  • Observations by ACP Supervisor and Guidance and
    Counseling Department

How Do I Apply?
  • Applications are available on the ACP website
    http//dept.houstonisd.org/acp
  • Applications for the 2007-2008 school year are
    due by June 1, 2007.
  • Interviews will be scheduled for late June
  • Program will start in mid-August
