Luminescent nanodiamonds for intracellular
imaging
  • A biomolecule tagged with luminophore becomes
    visible in the cell
  • We develop luminescent nanodiamonds for tagging
    biomolecules, e.g. proteins, DNA
  • They are bright, small, non-toxic, and very
    photostable!

3
Imaging of individual
nanoparticles and macromolecules
  • Imaging resolution is half the wavelength of
light, but the detection sensitivity of
    individual particles is unlimited.
  • We develop a very sensitive microscope to detect
    individual macromolecules, e.g. large proteins,
    and nanoparticles.
  • We have detected diamond nanocrystals of 50 nm
    in size.

4
Multiphoton microscopy for imaging of live
cells and tissue
  • Multiphoton microscopy is an new imaging method,
which enables imaging of live tissue on the
    subcellular level.
  • For example, both sun-screen nanoparticles (zinc
oxide) and skin architecture are imaged with
exquisite clarity and resolution (see Image).
  • Using this method, we study nanoparticle
penetration through skin, and regeneration of
    cartilage tissue.
