- Established in 2001, a result of transformation
of the then Institute of Development Management
(IDM) - It is the fourth public university after UDSM,
SUA, and OUT - It offers degrees and non-degree programs PhDs,

8CURRENT STATUS OF ICT AT MU
- In total there are 400 computers
- There are four computer rooms for students
- There is one heavy-duty printer connected to the
LAN, HP LaserJet 9000, but there are other small
and medium-sized printers in various offices - There is a campus-wide LAN with a fibre optic
backbone - The LAN is connected to the Internet through VSAT
at 512/256 kbps at the main campus - The University has a website www.mzumbe.ac.tz
9CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT APPROACHES USED AT MU
- For new programs, the faculty concerned set
objectives general and specific - If an old program, owner of the program propose
general improvements - Experts from relevant disciplines come in to put
their expertise - Benchmarking is done by learning what others have
in similar programs - Potential employers are requested to chip in what
they would like candidates to know - Drafts are discussed by various stakeholders
- Ultimately University management organs discuss
and recommend or approve in case it is a SENATE
meeting

vendors/manufacturers - Study tours to certain ICT installations
17DURATION OF THE TRAINING
- The duration should vary from one group to
another - ICT/IT based programs one semester or one year
- Non-ICT/IT programs one semester
- Staff this will depend on the subject matter
18OUTCOME OF THE TRAINING
- ICT/IT professionals from the ICT/IT programs who
can really do things - ICT/IT literate graduates from non-ICT/IT
programs who employ ICTs in their operations - Academic staff with ability to use ICTs for
training but also direct their students to use
e-resources - Non-academic staff able to perform their duties
by employing ICTs and hence improve productivity
and reduce paper work
