Strategy Committee
- Formed in June 1994 following extensive
consultation with all four local Councils on the
Fleurieu Peninsula. - - DC Port Elliot Goolwa
- - DC Strathalbyn
- - DC Victor Harbor
- - DC Yankalilla
- Objective was to facilitate a coordinated and
unified approach to waste management issues by
the four member Councils, (meeting on a six
monthly basis initially, then ramping up to three
monthly in 2002).

- The terms of reference historically determined by
this Group - to establish and maintain documentation for the
state of waste management and recycling (sharing
experiences and systems). - to identify waste management and recycling
regional issues. - to determine Fleurieu Peninsula waste management
and recycling objectives and strategies. - to analyse stakeholders functions, activities and
programs to identify common ground, overlaps and
gaps. - to encourage stakeholders to take action to
achieve and maintain desired waste and recycling
outcomes. - to monitor and review individual actions against
desired regional outcomes.

- Since July 2003 Kangaroo Island joined in with
the three local Councils on the Fleurieu
Peninsula. - - Alexandrina Council
- - City of Victor Harbor
- - District Council of Yankalilla
- - Kangaroo Island Council
- Objective is still to facilitate a coordinated
and unified approach to waste management issues
by the four member Councils, (meeting on a
monthly basis).

- The terms of reference now determined by this
Group are - To establish and maintain a regional approach to
waste man. - To establish and maintain a consistent kerbside
collection. - To share waste management resources across the
region. - Establish community education programs for the
region. - Establish and maintain region wide contracts with
private sec. - Establish criteria for the implementation of fees
and charges (including any levies), to be
implemented across the region. - Provide recommendations to the SHLGA on regional
issues. - Use this Group as a regional body to obtain Govt
funding for regional initiatives, or local ones
that meet regional approach. - Monitor and review actions / decisions on a
continual basis.

- Regional Waste Management Strategy developed in
1997, (including a Promotion and Education
Strategy) - Cost Analysis Report for a Regional Waste
Authority in 1998 - Comprehensive Waste Management Plan in each
Council 1998 - Contract for Processing of Green Organics in
2001. - EPA Green Organics Facilities Grant in 2000 for
40,000 which assisted in funding Environment
Management Plans for 3 sites - Facilitated Workshops on Waste Oil and Grape Marc
in 2002 - Introduced Uniform Landfill Charges across the
region in 2003 - Facilitated Maunsell Real Landfill Cost Options
Report in 2003
