Headlines
  • Dudleys population aged 0-17 is estimated to be
    69, 441 (mid-year 2001)
  • During the Census Week of the 7th October 2001,
    there were 1235 open cases in Dudley (1.8 of the
    0-17 population)
  • Of these, 423 (34) were looked after children
    and 812 (66) were children supported in families
    or independently
  • 48 of the total number of children had a primary
    need code of Abuse or Neglect, with 15 recorded
    as Childs Disability

    correlated to the Index of Multiple Deprivation
    (IMD) by wards
  • Ward profile of conception rates amongst 15-17
    year-olds bore some relationship to the
    demography of children in need in the borough

  • Additional Information
  • - of the 1235 open cases, we collected detailed
    extra information on 954 cases (equates to 610
    families) in relation to domestic violence,
    substance misuse and parental issues (mental
    health, substance misuse and alcohol abuse)

  • DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
  • Of the 954 cases, 144 (15) were recorded as
    children in need where domestic violence was an
    issue on referral
  • Of the 144 children, 45 (31) were recorded as
    being affected by the mental health of a parent,
    13 (9)due to substance misuse of a parent and 40
    (28) due to parental alcohol abuse
  • SUBSTANCE MISUSE
  • Of the 945 cases, 43 (4) cases were described as
    children in need where substance misuse was a
    parental issue on referral
  • Parental issues of either mental health, domestic
    violence or alcohol abuse were also present in an
    average of 33 of these cases
