Land, Lease, Tenure
  • A joint project with OpenGIS
  • Proposal was discussed at the OGC meeting last
    week.

2
Overview
  • Test Bed scenario
  • A group of people get together and work out the
    software.
  • Example is the OGC Web Test Bed www.opengis.org
  • Emphasis is in the GIS area.
  • The goal is working software - over the internet.

3
Open GIS Consortium
  • OGC has over 200 members
  • Many GIS software developers
  • GIS applied to all industries.
  • Land, Lease, Tenure SIG
  • Newly formed.
  • We can control its direction.

4
The Project Scenario
  • A person accessing data over the internet.
  • Free, for fee, and proprietary
  • Catalogued for access
  • Common data format (GML industry specific)
  • Can collect and overlay the data.
  • Follow process of earlier test bed.

5
Technical Environment
  • Most techniques exist Catalog service,
    coordinate transformation service, coordinate
    system standards, GML (geographic markup
language), web plotting (SVD), Security access,
    etc.
  • The challenge is to make all of these work
    together.

6
Who is Involved?
  • Government Bodies
  • Database Vendors
  • Data Brokers and Vendors
  • Software Companies
  • User Companies (OG)

7
Government Bodies
  • Have cadastral location and similar data.
  • Develop the format for sharing the data.
  • Application of the data would much broader than
    OG alone.

8
Database Vendors
  • Develop the methods for moving XML data into and
out of databases, either by physically moving the
data or by accessing it via an XML view.
  • Develop practical ways of accessing location data.

9
Data Brokers and Vendors
  • Develop methods to advertise their data (through
the catalog service) and develop methods to
    collect fees for use.
  • Have a new method for advertising data
    availability.

10
Software Companies
  • Develop working applications in conjunction with
    other software companies.
  • Develop experience working with the web catalog
    services and the coordinate transformation
    service.
  • Develop experience with plotting and mapping
    across the internet.

11
EP Companies
  • Generate applications that can build a composite
    map from dispersed sources.
  • Let various groups know how to present their
    data.
  • Minimize reformatting and data duplication.
