Case Study

• A 4th grade boy who is Latino
• English Language Learner student
• Diagnosed with specific learning disability in
  written language, math, and reading
• Difficulty in letter recognition, letter sounds,
  and sentences that include capitalization,
  correct spelling and punctuation

Activities

• Mini Lessons letter recognition, sound
  recognition, vowels, and making 3 letter words
  were all done with the Leap Frog Mat
• Reading a short book using reading rods to answer
  questions at the end

Student Improvement

• Student was able to identify all 26 letters and
  their sounds
• Student was able to make 3 letter words
• Student was able to identify the vowels and their
  sounds (long and short)

Personal Reflection

• I have grown as a professional.
• Learned new techniques to help the student grow
  academically and to gain self-confidence.
• I am more patient. It was frustrating at times
  because the student was forgetful and it was
  difficult to keep him focused.
