2The Every Child Matters Agenda forms the basis
for the schools commitment to develop Students
Voice. The initiatives offer equal opportunities
to the students for both citizenship education
and personal education.

6STRUCTURE OF SCHOOL COUNCIL All students
participate in the functioning of the school
council and some of them are elected for the
following leadership positionsELECTED

- The elected officers form a student leadership
group - It has four important post holders from Year 11
- Chairperson
- Vice Chairperson
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- They are selected by the House Captains through
the process of nominations and elections - The main role of the elected officers is to
conduct House Captains meetings, create agenda,
write communicate the minutes of each meeting
to both staff and students and to represent
School Council in and outside school events.
8HOUSE CAPTAINSHouse Captains are selected from
the four Houses of the school through letter of
application and interviews
9Responsibilities of House Captains
- To attend all House Captains Meetings
- To conduct House Council Meetings and minute them
- To perform student leadership role in the House
during - House Assemblies
- Fire drills
- House Detentions
- New Year 7 Induction sessions
- Sports Day
- Other House duties
- (House Captains receive training for their
leadership role after selection.)

12What are Class Council Meetings?
- Class Council meetings give every student in the
school a chance to contribute his voice to school
matters. From May 2007, each tutor group should
hold a meeting once every week during the tutor
period to discuss school matters.

school community through discussions, surveys,
meetings and other modes of active involvement

staff by contributing to interviews and giving
recommendations
18Discussed provisions in the new school building
after visiting the building site
19Tried to improve school dinners through
discussion on food quality and menu with the
kitchen staff
20Proposed ideas to Performing Arts Department on
how parents can be involved in their creative
initiatives
21Contributed to the review of the schools
Behaviour Policy and given recommendations
22Discussed with SLT certain proposals for the hot
days in summers including suggestions on water
fountains and summer uniform
23Attended conferences to share student Voice
development initiatives with other schools
24Explored the future vision with the Music
Department and contributed to the Departments

25Discussed ideas on how new Year 7 can be helped
to settle well during the transition period
26Contributed to consultation meetings on

28- Embed the student voice initiative among the
students such that each student is aware of how
it works and what its aims and achievements are. -
- This we plan to do through a Citizenship Unit of
work on Student Voice to be delivered to both
KS3 KS4 students during PSHCE lessons
