  • Watoto educational materials that reflect the
    wider world and enable young children to develop
    a curiosity about this.
  • Picture Literacy - photographs provide
    opportunities for focused talking, questioning,
    observing, describing and deducing.

Examples from Practice
  • Persona Dolls can be used to promote
    discussion on inclusion, gender, race, bullying,
    other world cultures, similarities and
    differences, participation and childrens rights.

  • If we start where children are, with something
    familiar, and then broaden out, children are able
    to empathise, and make connections between their
    own lives, and the different experiences of
    others. They retain impressions gained from
    images and objects, and these can counter the
    negative stereotypes and prejudices that they may
    already have absorbed at their young age.
