Historic Sites

• 1. Frobisher National Historic Site On
  Kodlunarn Island in Frobisher Bay (close to
  Iqaluit). This tiny island has the remains of
  Martin Frobishers habitation and the smelting
  plant he operated between 1576 and 1578.
• 2. LAnse aux Meadows National Historic Park At
  the northern tip of Newfoundland contains the
  remains of seven buildings, cook pits, and a
  smithy.

• 3. Gaspé, Quebec The site of a 30-foot granite
  cross commemorating the cross erected by Jacques
  Cartier in 1534.
• 4. Cartier-Brébeuf National Historic Park Facing
  the St Charles River, where Cartier wintered his
  three ships in 15356.
• 5. McGill University (Montreal) A plaque marks
  the site of the village of Hochelaga.

  inhabited the region about 5,000 years ago.

  Reconstruction of the habitation and other
  buildings of the first French colony established
