Balanced Competition
  • Would this be a fair competition in a wrestling

10
Balanced Competition
  • Another way to make sport safe is to try to level
the competition by grouping competitors in
    different ways.
  • This is called balanced competition.
  • By weight such as in boxing.
  • By skill level such as in judo.
  • By sex such as in rugby.
  • By age.

11
Balancing by Age.
  • Although the age restriction is clearly an issue
of even competition and safety, the situation
often arises when two competitors in the same age
band are a mismatch in terms of height and
    weight.
  • Discuss with a partner whether you think this is
the safest way to group children in competition.
Can you think of any better options?

12
Task
  • Put a new title the warm up and cool down.
  • Using the black text book answer the following
    questions
  • What should the three phases of the warm up
include and how long should each phase last?
  • What happens to the body during phase one of the
    warm up?
  • What are the important things to remember when
completing phase two of the warm up.
  • What are the three main reasons for completing a
    warm down after sport?

13
What Have We Learnt Today?
  • That all practical activities involve risk.
  • That there are many ways to protect ourselves
    from this risk.

activity are so important for preventing injury.
