Common Essay Errors

• Not following instructions.
• Not answering the question.
• Not supporting statements with evidence and
  argument. Above all else a historical essay must
  be factually accurate.
• Improperly citing evidence or not citing
  evidence.
• Sloppy presentation. This may include the way
  the document looks (crumpled up, coffee stains,
  used paper, not stapled), awkward prose, bad
  grammar and punctuation.
• Trying to pass off your paper from your other
  class as fulfilling the requirements of this one.
  
• VERY BAD Turning in something written by someone
  else. This could bring your college career to a
  screeching halt.
