Written Skills

    introduction.

  • A summary
  • References to work researched and information
used. E.g.web sites, books etc. Failure to
    include this suggests Plagiarism

  • In the exam at the end of semester 2 there will
be at least one question which requires some of
the revision notes to enable it to be answered
    fully.

10
Set up an OHP
  • Set up the projector beforehand

  • Does it have a working bulb?

11
Using the OHP
  • Put slides on square
  • Step out of the way
  • Point at the projected image

12
Slide Quality
  • Short readable text
  • Trying to cram in a lot of detail that no one
will be able to see let alone read can generate
disinterest very quickly. This is because the eye
is trying to read the text at the same time as
the ears are trying to listen to what is being
said and possibly notes taken as well
  • Careful colour
  • Diagrams, Tables Charts with great care

13
Text Size
Use readable point size (36pt) not a font like
Arial (24 pt) I have used 54pt for titles and
40pt for other text
14
Colour Font
Are you colour blind?
Interesting change
Restful?
Cool font Hard read
15
Diagrams, etc.
  • Welcome change from text and say a lot quickly
  • Diagrams can be cluttered
  • Tables tempt small sizes many columns
  • Graphs tempt too much detail

16
Engage Audience
Face the audience Stand tall and plant your
feet Talk directly to attentive listeners Point
at the screen Dont babble - low and
slow(ish) Calm nervous hands Relax
17
Using prompts
  • Remembering what you want to say
  • Prompts
  • Use slides
  • A6 cards with very brief notes
  • Practice before a mirror - out loud
