Title: Population Stabilization

1
Population Stabilization
  • Proposals

2
Cultures and Family Planning
  • In many cultures, men are the major decision
makers concerning health issues in the household.
At the same time, reproductive health programs
and services have traditionally served women and
    restricted mens participation.
  • A program that included men, might possibly be
    more accepted.
  • The population Council is undertaking studies to
understand the consequence and challenges of
enhancing the role of me in different aspects of
    reproductive health.

3
Population Councils EffortsFamily Planning
  • Gender, Family, and Development Program
    highlights the social determinants of
    reproductive and sexual health.
  • This program gives priority to fostering and
documenting programs that empower women and girls
    and realign gender roles

4
Family Planning Policy--Proposal
  • With population stabilization having an integral
role in GHG emissions, we agree to implement
    (x-amount) programs emphasizing delayed
reproduction (wait later in life), spreading your
children farther apart, and have fewer children
    overall. Later, Longer, Fewer.
  • Programs should involve education and expansion
of rural health services, and also involve the
establishment of national and provincial targets
    for births.

5
Agriculture
  • Land usage-38 world wide
  • Water withdraws-66 world wide
  • Water consumption-85 world wide
  • Large contributor to habitat loss and
    fragmentation that threaten worlds forest,
biodiversity, terrestrial carbon sinks and stores
  • Oxygen depletion, pesticide, fertilizer runoff,
    and erosion threaten countless species

6
Modern Farming
  • Feeding the world-no silent springs
  • Using technology and yields from 1961 it would
require a doubling of the land to produce enough
food for the population in 1998
  • 8.5 billion acres of potential cropland (world
wide) 45 of which is forested and another 12 is
    protected
  • Agriculture technology has reduced starvation and
hunger and helped reduce maternal and infant
    mortality rates

7
Higher yields for Undeveloped Countries
  • Genetic Engineering (Biotechnology)
  • Transportation and Storage (Infrastructure)
  • Irrigation

8
Proposal
  • Exchange of agricultural technology between
    countries
  • Set limits on yeilds and type of crop grown
  • Possible support from wealthier nations for
better infrastructure in exchange for that
    nations carbon recipts
  • Redefinition of land and water rights globally
    that will benefit each country
