IAASS Award Program

• The Jerome Lederer Space Safety Pioneer Award
  is assigned bi-annually to an individual who has
  made outstanding contributions in the field of
  space safety
• The award consists of a solid silver statuette
  reproducing an ancient master piece the Winged
  Victory, or Nike (Greek for "victory") of
  Samothrace, standing on an hemisphere
  representing the surface of Mars . Victory was
  very early in ancient times depicted as a winged
  female figure, and the one from Samothrace is
  generally considered the most beautiful,
  powerful, majestic the original, made of marble
  and set on a large stone pedestal in the shape of
  a ship's prow, stood on a cliff overlooking the
  sea.
• The winner is presented the award at the IAASS
  Conference Gala Dinner, which is the culmination
  of the IAASS conference.

IAASS Award Criteria

• The nominee is an individual who is or has been
  working, for a large part of his career, full
  time in space safety or in a closely related
  engineering field. He has shown outstanding
  support and dedication to space safety, and
  achieved national and/or international
  recognition. The award may be assigned to an
  individual or to a group of individuals who have
  been closely co-operating.
• The nominee shall meet at least two of the
  following five criteria I) Documented
  professional involvement in space safety or
  related engineering fields for a period of at
  least 15 years
• II) Significant participation to the development
  of a space safety culture (technical,
  organisational and/or socio-political) which has
  imprinted a lasting mark in his organisation or
  in the programs in which he has been involved

• III) Author of books, papers and/or articles who
  promoted novel concepts and ideas which greatly
  advanced the understanding and implementation of
  space safety technical or management
  disciplines IV) Inventor or designer who
  through one or more outstanding patent or
  conceptual design innovation contributed to make
  space systems (including related equipment or
  payloads) safer
• V) Inspiring leader in promoting safety
  education, research and/or the development of
  standards

Nomination Procedure

• For practical purposes, the award nomination
  cycle has been made to coincide with the
  conference preparation. The award nomination
  cycle starts at the same time of the conference
  call for papers and terminates with the closing
  date for abstracts submittal.
• Nominations shall be submitted electronically to
  IAASS Award Committee, by downloading, filling
  and e-mailing the relevant form available on the
  Association website.
• The award winner will be announced one month
  before the conference.
• The award may be sponsored only by an IAASS
  Organisation/Corporate member. For relevant
