Writing - AKS
  • Throughout the year, students will actively
    engage in writing activities that move them
    towards mastery in the four writing components
    Ideas, Organization, Style, Conventions.
  • As students move from 6th to 8th grade, they
    practice reading and responding to writing
    prompts, scoring writing using the same writing
    rubric utilized on the 8th grade assessment,
    learning how to address the audience, developing
    ideas, and improving their style.

Reading - AKS
  • Did you know that reading improves vocabulary,
    comprehension, writing, and knowledge?
  • Here at Hull, students engage in individual,
    small group, and whole class reading activities
    such as independent reading, book chats,
    literature circles, and reading workshops.

Grammar AKSDGP (Daily Grammar Practice)
  • One tool that we use to teach and model grammar
    is DGP.
  • One sentence each week.
  • Monday parts of speech.
  • Tuesday sentence parts and phrases.
  • Wednesday clauses and sentence types.
  • Thursday capitalization and punctuation.
  • Friday diagramming.

Benchmarks and Writing Pieces
  • Benchmarks (a.k.a. Final Exams) given at the end
    of each 9 weeks. These benchmarks are created by
    Gwinnett County and cover AKS for 9 weeks.
  • 1st 9 Weeks (Week of Oct. 10th)
  • Students will produce a piece of writing at the
    end of each 9 weeks in preparation for 8th Grade
    Writing Test. (GA state test)
  • Scored using Hull Middle School Writing
    Assessment Rubric

Promotion Requirements and Expectations
  • Must earn passing grade averages EACH semester in
    no less than 4 out of 5 classes with connections
    classes combined into one semester average.
  • Both Language Art and Math must have passing
    averages EACH semester.
  • First Semester average of 1st 2nd nine weeks
    report card grades/
  • Second Semester average of 3rd 4th nine weeks
    report card grades.
  • Students are responsible for getting missed
    assignments and making them up.

  • Students are responsible for getting missed
    assignments and making them up.
  • Late Work 0.
  • Students may have a chance to make up the missing
    assignments in detention or Saturday School for a
    maximum grade of 70.
