Title: The 13 attributes of Mercy

1
The 13 attributes of Mercy
  • (The Yom Kippur prayers)

2
Yom Kippur
  • G-D has His own set times and seasons. (People
tend to ignore the 1st half of the Greatest
    Commandment Mark 1229)
  • Yom Kippur is a time of personal and national
repentance as we enter the New Year on G-Ds
calendar. (Lev. 23). It was observed by the
Church even after the resurrection of Jesus (Acts
    279).
  • The book of Hebrews tells us that Jesus is the
final sacrifice, but NOT that Yom Kippur is done
away with (just like the Sabbath and the
    Passover)!

Psalm 95
  • 7 for He is our G-d and we are the people of His
pasture, the flock under His care. Today, if you
    hear His voice,
  •  8 do not harden your hearts as you did at
Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the
    desert,
  •  9 where your fathers tested and tried Me,
though they had seen what I did.
  •  10 For forty years I was angry with that
generation I said, "They are a people whose
hearts go astray, and they have not known My
    ways."
  •  11 So I declared on oath in My anger,
"They shall never enter My rest. (Sabbath)

5
Slichot
  • The slichot prayers (the prayers of repentance)
are not only requests for forgiveness. The basis
of the prayers are proclamations of G-Ds
attributes. Called the 13 attributes of divine
    mercy.

Exodus 34
  • 4 So Moshe chiseled out two stone tablets like
the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in
the morning, as the L-RD had commanded him and
he carried the two stone tablets in his hands. 5
Then the L-RD came down in the cloud and stood
there with him and proclaimed his name, ????. 6
And he passed in front of Moshe, proclaiming,
    ???? , ???? , G-d the compassionate and
gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and
faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to a thousand
    generations, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion
and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty
unpunished he punishes the children and their
children for the sin of the fathers to the third
    and fourth generation."

13 Middot
  • ???? (am/is/are)
  • ???? (He IS after we sin)
  • G-D (G-D allows sin to exist so that we can
    continue existing)
  • Compassionate (Mercy with reason)
  • Gracious (Mercy without reason)
  • Slow to anger (Anger with distance)
  • Abounding in love (G-D giving Himself)
  • And truth/faithfulness (The future pulled into
    the present)

John 1
  • 14 The Word became flesh and tabernacled among
us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One
and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace
    and truth.
  •    15 John testifies concerning Him. He cries
out, saying, This was he of whom I said, 'He who
comes after me has surpassed me because He was
    before me.'
  •    16 From His fullness we have all received
grace upon grace. 17 Because the Torah was given
through Moshe and grace and truth came through
    Jesus the Messiah.
  •    18 No-one has ever seen G-d, but G-d the One
and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made
    him known.
  • (Col 115 - He is the image of the invisible G-d
    )
