Lets get started!

• Open Open Croquet
• Locate the icon Croquet.exe
• Double click on it to open

• This is the Open Croquet window
• Squeak is in Open Croquet!!!!
• Left click on the box First Steps
• Its at first box to the right

Lets get started

• Left click on the TeaPot icon and drag it
  anywhere outside the green box
• and WAIT
• Be patient
• It takes a while to load Open Croquet

What is Open Croquet?

• Graphical Squeak
• Its built on Squeak
• Mouse actions, navigations, very similar to
  Squeak

What is Open Croquet?

• 3D Environment
• Squeak usually deals with 2D graphics
• Open Croquet deals with 3D and 2D graphics!!!

What is Open Croquet?

• Allows Real-Time Peer to Peer Collaboration
  (eventually)
• People from different places can interact with
  each other on Open Croquet

• Free!!!
• Thats why its called OPEN Croquet
• You can get it at www.opencroquet.org

A Few Things

• Graphics always run slow on computers
• Be patient with Open Croquet
• Sometimes the computer freezes/crashes
• Dont Panic! Wait a while.
• You can always re-start Open Croquet ?

Loading

• Its done loading when you see ALL the windows
  are showing and the clouds are moving

Moving Clouds

• When the clouds are not moving
• Open Croquet is still running
• Do not do anything, just wait until the clouds
  start moving again
• Or you can re-start Open Croquet (remember to
  close it first)

• Lets call the world Alice world

• If you do not see the full window, you can move
  the window
• Just like Squeak
• Hold Alt and left click anywhere inside the Alice
  world
• Left click and drag the icon

Oops..?!

• If you see this window
• To get rid of the window
• Move your mouse to the top of the window until
  you see
• Left click on it
• Do NOT click on Exit
• This will close Open Croquet

• Sometimes you will see this icon
• Its at the top left corner
• Left-clicking it brings up the windows halo

Where can I find the bookmark?

• is like a bookmark
• Move your mouse to the bottom left corner of the
  world window
• Navigator Dock shows a list of tools

• You will see the telephone icon
• Its a chatting tool
• The current Open Croquet version doesnt support
  it

Different Views

• Hold Ctrl and A together
• changes how you can view the world
• Hold Ctrl and R together
• gives you a rear view

Pyramids

• In Alice world, theres a pyramid
• Left click and drag spins the pyramid
• Left click on it again stops the spin

• Type a number from 1 to 6 and see how the pyramid
  changes

• You are Alice in the Alice world
• To Move Right click and drag the mouse

• Notice the yellowish crosshair in the middle of
  the window
• The closer you are to the cross hair, the slower
  you will move
• Its always in the middle

That window again

• If you have left clicked instead of right, you
  will get a new blue window
• To get rid of the window
• Move your mouse to the top of the window until
  you see
• Left click on the icon

• In Croquet, you will see blue rectangles
• They are croquet windows
• They are also portals to another worlds

• All Croquet windows have these 5 icons at the top
• Move Mouse to the top frame of a blue window
• The blue color will change to yellow
• The icons will show up

• Left clicking on it deletes the window
• Do NOT do this unless you really want to delete
  the window!
• If you accidentally delete it, re-start Open
  Croquet

• Left clicking on it takes a snapshot
• If the window is not a portal, it doesnt work

• Left clicking on it takes you to the front of the
  window
• Or you can right click at the top frame of the
  window

• Left clicking on it makes the window follow you
  wherever you are
• You can left click on it again to stop the window
  following you

  window
• Open we can see whats inside the window
• Close we cannot see whats inside the window

• You can move the windows
• Move mouse to the top or bottom of the window
  (not the corner)
• Left click on the top or bottom frame to move

• You can resize the windows
• Move mouse to the any one corner of the window
• Left click at the corner

• You can rotate or spin the windows
• Move mouse to the side frame of the window
• Left click on the side frame
• If its spinning, you can left click on the side
  frame again to stop it

• Close Open Croquet and start it again

Portals

• Portals are like doors
• They connect us from one place to another
• In Open Croquet, portals take us from one world
  to another world
• To open the portal left click inside the portal
  window or left click on the thats at the top of
  the window

• Well explore different portals in Open Croquet
• If you get lost, use the snapshots to remember
  your locations
• Navigator Dock ? Left click on Snapshots

• The Flags portal is near the pyramid, at the edge
  of Alice world
• Open the portal by left clicking inside the
  window
• Move Alice inside the portal

• You can change how the flag is moving
• Left click and drag on the flag

• Left click on the rover, then type on your

Locating the Painter Tool
Appearance of Dock once located on the Croquet
window

• First Locate your Painter tool. To do this move
  your mouse at the bottom of the Croquet window,
  called the Dock
• Click on the tools section

Click on the Tool section.

TPainter

• From the tools section click on the TPainter
• Now you are ready to paint!
• Notice that some tools that you have is a brush,
  eraser, and different colors

Drawing Your Own Fish

• Now draw a fish of your choice. Using the tools
  given

Giving the Fish Direction

• The program does not know which direction you
  have drawn the fish.
• You need to give it orientation.
• If you have drawn the fish with its head facing
  to the left that is forward. Click on forward.

Keeping your Fish

• To insert your fish into the enviorment press
  KEEP
• Now you are done!
• You can make other cool stuff with the painter!
