  • Know where every pieces is.
  • Piece specifics kept track of in software.
  • Check moves against rules.
  • Complain if rules are broken.
  • Output log as text.
  • As file, maybe over network/internet.

  • Magnetic switches.

  • Electrical contacts.
  • Vision-based (webcam).
  • Force sensors, RFID, hall-effect, magnetic

Move validation
  • Some simple, some complicated
  • Simple Bishops move diagonally.
  • Difficult Castling - moves two pieces, King and
    Rook must have not moved before, King can not
    move through check.
  • Open-source software available but usability
    unknown.
