Title: MEMORIES OF HOME

1
MEMORIES OF HOME
A DIRGE OR A SONG?
Lk. 1516-20
2
All Christian Parents Should Be Concerned about
the memories their children will have of home.
  • Memories of his fathers home is what
  • motivated the prodigal sons resolve
  • to return to his father (Lk. 1516-20).
  • The rich mans memories of wasted
  • opportunities will haunt his mind for
  • an eternity (Lk. 1625).
  • Impressions made early in our lives,
  • whether good or bad, will be powerful
  • in shaping the lives of our children.

3
  • Memory tempers prosperity,
  • mitigates adversity, controls youth,
  • and delights old age (Lactantius)

WHAT WILL YOUR CHILDREN REMEMBER ABOUT HOME?
LactantiusAD 260 - 326
4
  • THAT YOU HAD
  • GREAT FAITH
  • IN GOD AND
  • THE BIBLE?
  • Children catch
  • faith from
  • parents at first.
  • It is later their
  • faith is both
  • confirmed and
  • strengthened
  • by the Word
  • (Rom. 1017).

5
  • Parents failing to trust God, and
  • so demonstrate it in their lives,
  • set their children up to do the same
  • (Prov. 226).
  • Solomon was able to catalogue the
  • things taught him by his mother
  • (Prov. 311-9).
  • Will our children remember or
  • care that we walked with the
  • giants of faith who are chronicled
  • in Hebrews 11?

6
  • WILL THEY REMEMBER OUR
  • ATTENDANCE TO WORSHIP HABITS?
  • The greatest present that we can
  • give them is our presence in
  • spiritual activities.
  • The children observe our presence
  • or absence. They will use our
  • presence as encouragement to be
  • present themselves our absence as
  • a license to not be present as well.
  • The greatest teacher of all is the
  • example set before them.

7
  • Sunday Morning Christian is an
  • oxymoron. Christianity is not
  • seasonal or restricted by time or
  • place.
  • What kind of memories do we want
  • our children to have of our emphasis
  • upon being present and having them
  • present for Bible classes and other
  • services.
  • Parents AND grandparents have a big
  • obligation to demonstrate right living.

Christian Homes Join Forces For
Upholding Righteousness and Saving Our Children!
Do We Invite And Expose Our Homes To Good People
And Positive Influences?
9
  • WILL THEY REMEMBER THAT WE WERE
  • SPIRITUALLY MINDED PARENTS?
  • Spirituality is something that is
  • communicated to others by the order
  • of our priorities.
  • Can it be observed in every decision
  • and action in us as parents?
  • Which gets the
  • attention, their
  • secular or their
  • spiritual training?
  • (Eph. 64)

10
  • Simple practices give solid indication
  • of depth and extent of our spirituality
  • Expressing thanks before meals.
  • Reading our Bibles daily.
  • Spending time in earnest prayer,
  • in which you pray for them and for
  • self to be the right kind of parents.
  • Choosing spiritual things instead
  • of secular and material.
  • What will they remember about our
  • priorities in life?

11
  • CONCLUSION
  • As our children remember us in the
  • future, will they rise up and call us
  • blessed as taught in Scripture (Prov.
  • 3128).
  • Soon they will be gone from home
  • having only memories!
  • Will those memories make them
  • thankful and give them comfort and
  • direction for their lives?

A Piece of Clay
I took a piece of plastic clayAnd idly fashioned
it one day,And as my fingers pressed it
still,It moved and yielded to my will. I came
again when days were past --The bit of clay was
hard at lastThe form I gave it, it still
bore,But I could change that form no more. I
took a piece of living clayAnd gently formed it
day by day,
13
And moulded with my power and artA young child's
soft and yielding heart.
I came again when years were gone --It was a man
I looked uponHe still that early impress
wore,And I could change him nevermore.
