What is the Health Protection Agency?The
Health Protection Agency (HPA) is an independent
body set up in 2003 with responsibility for
protecting the health and well-being of everyone
living in England and Wales by
  • Prevention and control of infectious diseases
  • Reducing the adverse effects of chemical,
  • microbiological and radiological hazards
  • Preparing for potential or emerging threats
