Principles of the Trust
  • The Moral purpose of the trust is to promote
    learning and meet the needs of all young people
    in the town of Bridgwater
  • Trust schools will be foundation schools
  • Trust facilitates schools in Bridgwater
  • Schools collectively will determine the role of
    the Trust
  • Schools will identify its partners who would
    facilitate the functions of the Trust
  • The Trust would be an enabling organisation

Principles of the Trust
  • The Trust would add value beyond that of the
    individual Governing Bodies
  • The functions of the Trust would be as outlined
    in SfC Part 1
  • Time frame for the establishment of the Trust to
    be negotiated
  • The Schools will agree the size of the Trust and
    the method of consultation
  • A collective consultation document will be
    produced

Key Curriculum Principles
  • By 2013 all young people aged 14 to 19 in
    Bridgwater will be able to access a comprehensive
    curriculum spanning both academic and vocational
    pathways
  • Learning opportunities will be exciting and of
    the highest standard
  • Improved access will ensure that learning
    opportunities are accessible to all
  • Appropriate impartial advice and guidance will be
    available to all young people across the age
    range

Key Curriculum Principles
  • All young people will graduate from full-time
    education or training with the appropriate
    technical and functional skills to progress
    successfully into employment or higher education.
  • All young people for whom higher education is
    appropriate will have the confidence and levels
    of skill to progress to courses of higher
    education including a wide range of locally
    delivered flexible provision
  • Young people will leave full-time education and
    training with the necessary technological skills
    to function successfully in the 21st century.
  • All young people will be equipped to play an
    active role as responsible citizens in the wider
    global community

Good Practice
  • 677 14-16 young people access personalised
    learning programmes
  • Young people from the four Bridgwater schools
    work harmoniously and effectively together on IFP
    programmes
  • The IFP programmes involve 623 young people
  • Achievement rates on IFP are good at 96.5
  • Gifted and Talented are supported through the AS
    Critical Thinking programme. Success rates on
    this programme are high at 90
  • Transition arrangements from schools to college
    are very effective

Good Practice
  • All young people in Bridgwater have access to
    very effective Impartial Advice and Guidance,
    with Matrix qualified staff
  • Progression at 16 into College or Apprenticeships
    is high at 82
  • Through the Tertiary structure young people have
    access to a comprehensive range of post 16
    curriculum delivered in industry standard
    facilities Achievement post 16 is high at 91
  • Progression into Higher Education for Level 3
    students is high with 78 progressing to HE from
    A Levels and 42 from Level 3 vocational
    provision

Areas for Development
  • Not all lines of learning have yet been made
    available and will need to be introduced by 2013
  • Not all young people are actively engaged with
    their learning
  • Confidence and competence in the delivery of
    vocational training at 14 is still limited to a
    small number of staff in the schools

  • Further collaborative timetabling to facilitate
    the extension of vocational education and
    training is required
  • The transport infrastructure required to support
    the 14-16 expansion of vocational education in
    schools is not in yet place
  • The technological information, particularly VLE
    is not yet in place

Plan Contents
  • An agreed set of models of 14-19 progression
  • An agreed timescale for the introduction across
    the town of all 16 lines of learning and the
    identification of Expert Delivery Groups
  • The agreed timescale will also include other
    curriculum developments which provide appropriate
    alternatives to the Diploma programme
  • An agreed strategy, as part of BSF, to ensure
    that adequate vocational facilities are available
    across the town to meet the specialist needs of
    the curriculum
  • An agreed strategy for the engagement of key
    employers

    information, advice and guidance including the
    drawing up of a 14-19 joint prospectus for
    Bridgwater
  • An ILT strategy for Schools and College to
    support an expansion of personalised learning and
    common strategies for the use of VLE
  • An agreed strategy on transport across the town
  • A common timetabling policy
  • A common staff development programme
