Context
  • U.K. has one of the highest rates of self harm in
    Europe, suicide the most common cause of death in
    men under 35.
  • One in ten children between the ages of 1 15
    has a mental disorder. Rates of mental health
    problems increase as they reach adolescence.
  • By 2020 depression will be the second largest
    killer after heart disease, studies show that
    depression is a contributory factor to fatal
    coronary disease.

  • SEAL not an add on, part of whole school
    progress plan.
  • Audit completed.
  • Cross-referencing and adaptation of SEAL
    competences against PLTs to produce Little Ilford
    Life-Long Learning Skills. E\example.doc
  • Publicising of SEAL and mapping of SEAL
    competences during 2 INSET days on new KS3
    curriculum.

Recommendations
  • Explicit teaching of social and emotional aspects
    of learning in Year 7 (Sept. 2008)
  • Start process for years 8-9, development of LILLs
    focus via curriculum areas . Working with
    specific staff. P4C training (Summer 08 start)
  • Staff training on conflict resolution and stress
    management. (November 08)
  • Whole school displays to focus on specific areas
    managing feelings/self awareness.
