Title: Decoding Da Vinci

1
Decoding Da Vinci
2
Author Dan Brown 1- has a problem with the
church as a whole and with the Catholic church
specifically 2- is very talented in blurring the
line between fact and fiction 3- is not the
antichrist
3
  • Whats all the fuss about?
  • The Da Vinci Code is a fiction story about the
biggest cover-up in history. The basics
  • Jesus Christ was never divine
  • Jesus married Mary Magdalene

    and fathered a
    daughter by her
  • - Jesus never rose from the dead

4
  • Mary fled out of fear to France where she
    delivered her daughter
  • Powerful men in the church, to solidify their
power base, covered all this up and have been
trying for centuries to murder all of Christs
    descendants

5
  • A group called the Priory of Sion was formed to
protect the children and hide the tomb of Mary
Magdalene and the proof of this conspiracy
  • - The church founders were strongly anti-woman

The Bible did not arrive by fax from heaven
declares Teabing. The Bible is a product of man,
my dear. Not of God. The Bible did not magically
fall from the clouds. The Bible, as we know it
today, was collated by the pagan Roman emperor
Constantine the Great. In 325 AD, he decided to
unify Rome under a single religion Christianity.
Constantine needed to strengthen the new
Christian tradition and held a famous gathering
known as the Council of Nicea. Until that moment
in history
7
Jesus was viewed by his followers as a mortal
prophet.a great and powerful man, but a man
nonetheless. A mortal. Jesus establishment as
the Son of God was officially proposed and voted
on by the Council of Nicea. A relatively close
vote at that. Nonetheless, establishing Christs
divinity was critical to the further unification
of the Roman Empire and to the new Vatican power
base.
8
Constantine commissioned and financed a new
Bible, which omitted those gospels that spoke of
Christs human traits and embellished those
gospels that made him godlike. The earlier
gospels were outlawed, gathered up and burned
The Da Vinci Code
9
- Constantine chose fraudulent books of the
Bible, embellished them and outlawed earlier and
more reliable scriptures that spoke of Christ as
a human being
10
FACT All descriptions of artwork, architecture,
documents, and secret rituals in this novel are
accurate - Dan Brown
11
Authority and Inspiration of Scripture Canon-
literally measuring rod or ruler
12
Internal Evidence of Scripture- All Scripture
is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training in
righteousness, so that the man of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work - 2
Timothy 316-17
13
Above all, you must understand that no prophecy
of Scripture came about by the prophet's own
interpretation. For prophecy never had its
origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God
as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit
- 2 Peter 120-21
14
Biblical Inspiration- the process whereby God
worked through men to write exactly what he
wanted written without losing the personalities
and human expressions of the human authors
15
Prophecy- There were over 360 fulfilled
prophecies foretelling the coming Messiah
16
External Evidence- The bible was written over a
period of about 1600 years on 3 continents in 3
different languages by over 40 different authors.
It was written by kings, shepherds, fishermen,
tax collectors, a doctor, a military general,
peasants, prophets and prime ministers
17
It was written in different literary forms-
letters, historical narratives, poetry, wisdom
literature, apocalyptic literature, law, war,
prayer and praise. It was written in times of
war, times of peace, times of famine and times of
plenty. While in jail, in exile, while wandering
in the wilderness, in bustling Roman cities
18
And yet throughout the whole book, theres
amazing unity of thought and incredible agreement
about the nature of God, the nature of humankind
and the coming a Savior
19
We have over 4,500 manuscript and manuscript
fragments of the New Testament, dating all the
way back to about 45 AD
20
Early Church Tests For Canonicity 1- Orthodoxy-
is it in line with other scripture? 2-
Dynamism- does it change lives as its read in
churches? 3- Universality- is there general
agreement among the churches that it should be
accepted as scripture?
21
Early Church Tests For Canonicity 4-
Apostolicity- was it written by an Apostle or a
close companion of an Apostle? 5- Antiquity- how
close to the time of Christ was it written? The
earlier the better and more reliable...
22
Why is this important? If the bible is not
inspired by God, authoritative and trustworthy,
then there is no basis for any specific belief.
Faith becomes a buffet- pick and choose whatever
you want to believe and it doesnt matter
