Background
  • Kettering General Hospital is a medium-sized
    district general hospital which provides a wide
    range of services to about 300,000 people in
    North Northamptonshire.
  • The hospital has served its local community since
    1897. It became an NHS Trust in 1994 and is
    currently working to become a Foundation Trust.
  • The Trust's goal is to provide the highest
    standards of care for all of its patients and to
    fully support carers and visitors.
  • As well as services based at the main Kettering
    site the Trust also runs a wide range of services
    in Corby, Wellingborough and Rushden.

  • It has developed many state-of-the-art facilities
    run by highly qualified staff including

  • An 18m short-stay surgery Centre The Treatment
    Centre which enables the majority of operations
    to be done with stays of less than 48 hours
  • A 4.7m Cardiac Centre providing treatments
    closer to peoples homes

Research at KGH
  • 2007/08 the research portfolio at Kettering has
    included 52 studies.
  • 87 of research undertaken has been multi-centre
    studies organised from outside the Trust.
  • 42 of research undertaken is for cancer, as part
    of the work of the National Cancer Research
    Network, who have celebrated their 5th year of
    working with Kettering General Hospital this
    year.
  • A number of studies are organised and sponsored
    by the Trust, to gain new knowledge (which will
    be shared throughout the NHS), improve patient
    experience locally, and also give staff the
    opportunity to develop professionally.
  • All research undertaken is governed by the Trust
    Research Committee
