Atmosphere

• The atmosphere is a mixture of gases that
  surrounds the earth and protects us from the
  dangerous UV rays form the sun.
• It contains 78 of Nitrogen
• 21 of Oxygen
• 1 of other gases

Troposphere

• This is where weather occurs
• The lowest layer of the earths atmosphere
• Air is heated from the ground up
• Half of the earths atmosphere

Stratosphere

• Located just above the troposphere
• This is where temperature increases with altitude
• The ozone causes the temperature to increase
• The ozone absorbs dangerous sunlight.

Mesosphere

• Temperature decreases with altitude because air
  mixes together
• Coldest temperature reaches -90C
• This is where meteors burn when they enter the
  earths atmosphere

Thermosphere

• 4th layer of the atmosphere located above the
  mesosphere
• Contains very thin air
• Temperature very sensitive to solar activity
• Can heat up to 1,500C

Exosphere

• On top of the thermosphere
• The atmosphere becomes very thin here
• Atoms and molecules escape into space
