Title: The Pig Dissection

The Pig Dissection

The Mouth
The mouth was the first part of the pig we
dissected. It was a lot of fun. We looked at the
taste buds, epiglottis, tongue, hard palate, and
many more parts of the mouth. I learned the taste
buds went way down your tongue. I didnt know
that the tongue was so long. I learned the
epiglottis keeps food from entering the trachea
when you swallow. I got ot see what the hard and
soft palate was. I saw that the hard palate was
towards the front of your mouth and the soft was
towards the back.

The Abdomen Region
The abdomen region is a very important region to
our body. We looked at the small intestine and
talked about it digesting different nutrients. We
got to measure it too. The small intestine in a
baby pig is about 4 meters long. We looked at the
liver and I didnt no it was as big as it was. I
learned that it cleans and filters your blood. We
took out the stomach and and flipped it inside
out. We saw little ridges or lines along the
inside of the stomach. I learned that they crush
the food. We looked and learned about many more
organs in the abdomen region.

the small intestine.

The Thorax Region
The thorax region is in the chest. It was hard to
get to this part of the anatomy because you had
to cut through the tough skin and the rib cage.
We looked at the heart, lungs, trachea, larynx,
the esophagus, and many parts of the heart. I
learned that the left ventricle was the section
of the heart that pumps rich blood everywhere in
your body. I didnt know that the lungs were as
big as they really are. I didnt know that the
larynx was the part of your body that made you
talk. I learned a lot in this part of the pigs
body.

The Head
After we finished looking at the thorax, mouth
and throat, and abdomen regions we looked at the
skull, brain, and eyes. It was a lot of fun but
some kids didnt stay and look at it. I got to
see the parts of the eyes. There was one part
where is looked like Jell-O. We actually got to
take the eyes out of their sockets. It was really
neat. We looked at the brain. We took it out and
felt how fragile it really was. When you held it
it kind of fell apart. I learned a lot from
opening up the head.

I loved dissecting pigs. It has been a great
experience for me. I learned new and different
things. I learned more about the human and pigs
anatomies. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it a
lot.
