- It has overtaken the UK as the 4th biggest
- It has more English speakers than the USA
- The number of students learning the piano in
China exceeds the entire population of the UK - China and India produce more graduates than the
whole of Europe combined - If the population of China walked past you in
single file, the line would never end because of
the rate of reproduction

12What York have been trying to do locally with our
partners
- Encouraging ITT and PGCE institutions to link up
with their local 14-19 partnerships to benefit
from ongoing dialogue and access to
presentations, conferences, CPD opportunities,
links to employers, etc - We have very pro-active links with our local
Lifelong Learning Network (Higher York) which
help us make curriculum links - Emphasis is very much on pedagogy (for example
TEEP training) and the importance of Applied
learning Functional Skills, FLT, etc - Gaps in industry knowledge are being filled by
visits to works shadowing sector specific
employers, etc
13Filling the knowledge base of ITT institutions
- We are ensuring that there are dedicated ITT
places across the country for training teachers
specifically in Diploma lines. - All HEIs that deliver the ITT for QTS are
required through one of the 40 requirements
placed on them and inspected on by Ofsted to
make sure that the QTS students have knowledge of
the curriculum and changes in the curriculum. It
was explicit that this included knowledge of the
14-19 reforms. - In addition there was a funding (at a rate of 50
per QTS student) to support any updating required
