What are hydrologic Units?

• US divided into smaller hydrologic units based
  on 4 levels regions, sub-regions, accounting
  units, and cataloging units. Each is identified
  by a unique Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC),
  containing 2 to 8 digits.
• The entire Nations is divided into 21 regions,
  then sub-divided into 222 sub-regions 352
  accounting units 2150 cataloging units.
