Title: Lipase

Lipase
By T Z
2
Background on Lipase
  • Enzyme used for absorption of nutrients in the
    intestines.
  • Primary objective break down fats
  • Reduces number of fat stored in the body
  • Produced in the pancreas, then released to the
    small intestines.
  • Can also be found in the stomach and foods.

3
Lipase
  • Part of the esterases family of proteins.
  • Can work in burning and also storing fat.
  • Stimulates lipolysis in fat tissue
  • Then triggers beta-oxydation pathway( muslce and
    liver)
  • Ketone bodies produced in liver
  • Used as alternative fuel for glucose
  • Contain sulfhydryl
  • Activation of Lipase requires those that contain
    sulfhydryl (SH) in reduced state.
  • Ascorbic acid
  • Vitamin C
  • L-Glutathione
  • L-Cysteine.

4
Continued...
  • Interfacial Activation
  • No productivity in water
  • With addition of oil, productivity increases
  • Lipase regulated by Sc-IPG-phsophonate inhibitor
  • When attached, turns off Lipase

5
Primary Sequence
  • Primary Sequence
  • Displays two different Lipase chains
  • Shows what those chains are made up of

Chain A
Chain B
6
Primary Structure
  • This shows which components are responsible for
    alpha helixes and beta sheets.

Beta Sheets 19 beta sheet (9 strands 35
residues)
Alpha Helixes 39 helical (10 helices 72
residues)
7
Secondary Structures
  • Secondary pictures (2) include two different
    structures
  • Alpha Helixes (folding of backbone)
  • Beta Sheets

Alpha and Beta

Tertiary and Quaternary Structures
  • Tertiary (3) is a 3D folding of the Secondary
    structure.
  • Quaternary (4) is two subunits of Tertiary
attached together. Lipase does not have a 4
structure because the subunits are not attached.
