• The allied health workforce has been overshadowed
  by policymakers focus on the nursing shortage
  and has been largely ignored in recent workforce
  policy.

Careers in Allied Health Greater Sacramento Region

• Health care employers estimate that 5.1 percent
  of their current workforce, approximately 6,400
  employees, will retire in the next three years in
  Northern California.
• In the next 10 years (2007-2017) the health care
  industry is projected to grow by 23 percent in
  Northern California.
• Highest needs Registered Nurses, Medical
  Assistants, Radiological Technologists, MLTs,
  and Surgical Technologists.

Project Objectives

• Investigate the development of a regional
  Surgical Technology program through a hybrid
  distance learning solution, by developing a
  regional plan.
• Develop a regional plan for the training, and
  career advancement of Medical Assistants to
  attract more diverse and qualified individuals to
  the profession.
