Kinetic properties of Penicillium brasilianum
cellulose degrading enzymes
STUDENT PROJECT at
Substrate
Cellulose is a chemically simple, but
extremely recalcitrance biopolymer. It is
composed of ß-1,4-linked glucose chains tightly
bound to each other. The basic 3D structure is
called a microfibril, and consists of 40 glucan
chains bound in a tight, water-excluding complex.
Moreover, amorphous and crystalline regions
within the cellulose chain can be distinguished.
In this study, two model substrates Avicel and
Phosphoric Acid Swollen Cellulose (PASC) will be
used to determine the kinetics of three
cellulolytic enzymes.
