Generation Gap
2
Verse
  • One of the saddest stories in the Bible
  • A father set up the next generation for failure!
  • II Kings 2012-13
  • 12 At that time Berodach-Baladan the son of
Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a
present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah
had been sick. 13 And Hezekiah was attentive to
them, and showed them all the house of his
treasures the silver and gold, the spices and
precious ointment, and all his armory all that
was found among his treasures. There was nothing
in his house or in all his dominion that Hezekiah
    did not show them.

Verse
  • II Kings 2014-15
  • 14 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah,
and said to him, "What did these men say, and
from where did they come to you? So Hezekiah
said, "They came from a far country, from
    Babylon.
  • 15 And he said, "What have they seen in your
    house?"
  • So Hezekiah answered, "They haveseen all that is
in my house there is nothing among my treasures
that I have not shown them."

4
Verse
  • II Kings 2016-18
  • 16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear the word
of the LORD 17 'Behold, the days are coming
when all that is in your house, and what your
fathers have accumulated until this day, shall be
carried to Babylon nothing shall be left,' says
the LORD. 18 'And they shall take away some of
your sons who will descend from you, whom you
will beget and they shall be eunuchs in the
palace of the king of Babylon.'"

5
Verse
  • II Kings 2019 TLB
  • "All right," Hezekiah replied, "if this is what
the Lord wants, it is good." But he was really
thinking, "At least there will be peace and
security during the remainder of my own life!"
  • II Kings 2021 and 211
  • 21 So Hezekiah rested with his fathers. Then
Manasseh his son reigned in his place. 1
Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king,

6
Verse
  • Daniel 43
  • How great are His signs, And how mighty His
    wonders!
  • His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
  • And His dominion is from generation to
    generation.

7
Verse
May those who follow, find us faithful.
Each generation has the responsibility to pass
the torch to the generation that follows, in
order for the next generation to feel safe.

8
Verse
  • We are only
  • ONE
  • generation away from extinction, if we fail to
    pass along our heritage.

Verse
  • Titus 2
  • A sound and healthy church can not have a
    missing generation.

The Four Generations
  • GENERATION BORN
    ALIVE IN 2000
  • Builders 1927-1945 42 Million 52 Million
  • Boomers 1946-1964 76 Million 79 Million
  • Busters 1965-1984 69 Million 75 Million
  • Bridgers 1985-2004 58 Million 59 Million

11
Verse
  • BUILDER GENERATION
  • The Builders, born from 1927-1945, are a
    get-it-done generation. For example, Billy
Graham is a Builder. Builders tend to be loyal,
faithful and committed. They remember the
depression, WWII, and the days of no TV. They
make up 19 of our total population. Sixty-five
percent have accepted Christ, or acknowledge
    Christ in some fashion.

12
Verse
  • BOOMER GENERATION
  • The Boomers, born from 1946-1964, are the largest
and most studied generation in history. The
Boomers have a reputation of being rebellious,
affluent, and independent. They have lived during
a strong economy. They vividly remember the war
in Vietnam, and they cannot imagine the world
without TV. The Boomers make up 26.5 of the U.S.
population, and 28 profess to be believers in
Christ. The Boomers are educated, media-oriented,
    cause-oriented, fitness-conscious, activists,
    quality-conscious, and question authority. They
    demand choices.

13
Verse
  • THE BUSTER GENERATION
  • The Busters, born between 1965-1984, are a
complex mix that makes up 27 of the population,
or 66 million Americans. By the year 2015, they
will begin to take over the leadership of
    America.
  • Their lives have been impacted by Roe vs. Wade,
high technology, MTV, a variable economy, AIDS,
the Persian Gulf war and questionable politics.
  • Of the four groups, they are the most abused,
    forgotten and alienated generation.

14
Verse
  • To reach the Busters, the following should be
    considered
  • Physically, nothing captivates Busters more than
    sports and fitness.
  • Relationally, nothing captures Busters more than
    friends and family.
  • Mentally, nothing captivates Busters more than
    entertainment and music.
  • Socially, nothing captivates Busters more than
    improving the environment.
  • Spiritually, nothing captivates Busters more than
    a search for serenity.

15
Verse
  • THE BRIDGER GENERATION
  • The Bridgers were born between 1985 and 2004.
They are the children and grandchildren of the
Boomers. They represented 59 million of the
U.S. population in the year 2000.
  • They are also known as Generation E, Mosaics
    and Generation 9-11.
  • The Bridgers are the most technically skilled and
    are computer-advanced. Sixty-four percent use
cell phones mainly for personal calls, and 63
say they would rather go on-line than to watch
TV. To them, Speed is king.

16
Verse
  • Consider the following about Bridgers
  • They have no recollection of the Reagan era.
  • They think bottle caps have always been plastic.
  • They have never owned a record player.
  • They have never seen a black and white TV.
  • They think MTV has always existed.
  • They dont care who J.R. is or who shot him.
  • They have always had VCRs, cable, answering
    machines, CDs and cell phones.

17
Verse
  • In order to reach Bridgers, the following should
    be considered
  • Bridgers need to see your faith.
  • Involve Bridgers technologically.
  • Emphasize family relationships.
  • Train Bridgers interactively.
  • Create an environment that attracts.
  • Share compelling life-related stories.
  • Offer an interactive music style
  • that is deep.
  • They prefer casual dress codes.
  • Hang out 24/7.
