  • SEOP A process, not an event.
  • Record of process, meetings, academic and career
    planning, assessments/inventories (academic,
    aptitude, interest) maintained by counselor in a
    student file (paper or electronic).
  • Student and parent should meet with counselor a
    minimum of once each year. As students progress
    toward the senior year, the frequency of the
    meetings should increase.
  • Individual planning with the counselor, counselor
    classroom visits, parent teacher conferences,
    school to home communications, as well as other
    career and school advisory activities are part of
    the SEOP.

  • What does a SEOP Conference look like
  • Student and Parents are present and typically
    complete a survey of interest items they check
    according to priority.
  • Review of student progress (i.e. Attendance,
    grades, graduation requirements, criterion
    reference tests, standardized tests, aptitude
    tests, college entrance or skill training
    readiness).
  • Review course and pathway planning. Planning will
    be directed at career pathway exploration within
    high school graduation requirements. Planning
    will also be directed at pathways preparation and
    entry for post secondary study.
  • Review of programs available within the district
    that may assist student in gaining access to
    courses and training within their pathway.
  • Goal Setting and discussion of student values and
    expectations for the future. Possible discussion
    of congruence between plans v. academic/skill
    status

  • Planning and discussion specific to Concurrent
    that should take place in the SEOP process
  • FYI of general Concurrent information. Emphasis
    placed on meeting with a college advisor to plan
    course of study and degree or certificate
    pathway.
  • Students need to understand the direction they
    are going with credit. No empty credits! No
    flashlights in the forest need full
    illumination of path.
  • It is critical that students meet with college
    advisors in order to fully comprehend degree
    requirements.
  • It is vital that students understand the
    timelines required for admission, registration,
    and scholarship eligibility and graduation.

    scholarship deadlines
