  • The International Student Office is the only
    office in the University that can give
    immigration advice.
  • We can give you advice and information about
  • Working during your studies
  • Helping your non-EEA family members to comply
    with the regulations
  • Please do not take immigration advice from your
    friends!

  • EEA citizens 3 groups
  • Different rules apply, depending on when your
    country joined the EU or EEA
  • Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland,
    France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy,
    Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain,
    Sweden, United Kingdom, plus Iceland,
    Liechtenstein and Norway no restrictions on
    work
  • Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia,
    Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia (A8
    countries) Accession State Worker Registration
    Scheme. Collect EEA students guidance notes
    from International Student Office for
    information.
  • Bulgaria, Romania (A2 countries) apply for
    Registration Certificate on form BR1. Collect
    EEA students guidance notes from International
    Student Office for information.

  • paid if you earn more than 100 per week
  • must apply for NI number if working, but CAN
    start work before number issued
  • applying for a NI number
  • Job Centre or Benefits Agency
  • need passport certificate of attendance from
    CSA
  • Information about working during your studies is
    on page 65 of your International Student
    Handbook.

  • EEA members with non-EEA family members
  • Your family member(s) may need to apply to the
    Home Office for a family permit or residence card
  • Different requirements for Bulgarian and Romanian
    nationals, so check carefully before applying
  • Applications can take a long time to be processed
    discuss any concerns with an International
    Student Adviser

  • Television Licensing
  • If you have your own television you must, by law,
    buy a licence for it.
  • If you are caught using a television without a
    licence you can be fined up to 1000.
  • A television licence costs 139.50 for a year.
  • You can pay by direct debit in instalments
  • Information about television licensing is on page
    21 of your International Student Handbook

  • To drive a car in the UK, you must have a valid
    driving licence
  • You MAY be able to use the licence from you home
    country for a limited period of time
  • There are many other rules and regulations you
    must stick to
  • Before you consider driving in the UK, please
    read Driving in the United Kingdom a guide for
    international students to make sure you are not
    breaking any rules
  • The leaflet is available from the International
    Student Office
  • Information about driving in the UK is on page 34
    of your International Student Handbook

  • It is important that you read about University
    rules and regulations and understand how they
    work.
  • The rules are part of the contract between
    students and the University.
  • You can read the rules on the Portal
    http//portal.leeds.ac.uk
  • Go to the Student Services section
  • Find the Taught Student Guide or the Research
    Student Handbook
  • Information about University rules and procedures
    is on page 62 of your International Student
    Handbook.
