• Goal Assist in the development of processes
  designed to enhance and improve upon methods used
  in revising and maintaining IEC based
  co-published, relative to Industrial Control
  Equipment
• Longer-term Goal might be the introduction of
  concepts into other CANENA forums.

History of Effort

• NEMA SCAC Meetings identified need
• UL offered to host task group for NEMA
• Task group meeting held 8/1/05 at UL RTP very
  successful!
• Task group Expanded to come under CANENA umbrella
• Second meeting held 1/06 at UL RTP

• Full SDO participation (UL, CSA, and ANCE)
• Manufacturing representatives from US and CAN
  (ASCO, Eaton, Phoenix Controls, Reliance,
  Rockwell, Schneider Electric, Siemens)

Challenges with Co-Adopting IEC Standards

• Many involved in process including each SDO
  committee, NEMA, each country NC, delegates to
  the IEC, USTAG administrator
• Multiple processes to merge traditional CANENA
  process, with multiple SDO paths, plus the IEC
  process
• Moving target within IEC
• Unclear roles
