Goal of paper

• The goal of this paper is to determine
  performance behavior of different RAID levels,
  and compare the speed characteristics of
  different RAID solutions to a Non-RAID solution.
• Precisly, our main goal is
• RAID-0 vs RAID-1
• on the Linux kernel version 2.6
• For Throughout this analysis, the filesystem
  performance is measured using Postmark, DBench
  and TioBench benchmarks.

Conclusions

• RAID 0 is, as expected, remarkably the best
  configuration
• In some cases this improvement is almost linear.
• RAID 1 has become a very pleasant surprise in our
  tests.
• It brings a very slight performance decrease for
  majority of workloads, about 1.
• RAID 1 is a quite acceptable solution in the case
  of hardware RAID controller with SAS interface
  which enable multiple high speed links for
  independent disk drives. In this case double
  mirroring writes are executed in parallel,
  including RAID cache which improves write
  performances.
• We recommend RAID 10 configuration.
