34- GENERAL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CLASS OF
2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 - Consumer Education - One (1 )
- English - Eight (8) credits and the writing of a
research paper. - Fine Arts and/or Applied Sciences and Technology
- Two (2) credits in Fine Arts and/or Applied
Sciences and Technology. Applied Sciences and
Technology includes Business Education,
Cosmetology, Cooperative Vocational Education,
Cooperative Distributive Education, Family
Consumer Sciences, Applied Technology. (Note
Consumer Education and Management for Living will
not count toward these two credits if either
course is taken for a State of Illinois Consumer
Education requirement.) Fine Arts includes Art,
Music, Drama, and Arts Appreciation Dance,
Drama, Music and Visual Art. - Health - One (1) credit.
- Mathematics Classes of 2007 2008 4 credits
Class of 2009 6 credits Class of 2010 6
credits 2 credits must be a first year Algebra
course or a math course for which first year
Algebra is a prerequisite. 2 credits must be in
a course that contains Geometry content or a
course for which Geometry is a prerequisite. - Reading (Policy 6300-R3) One year of reading
is required for those students who score at or
below district expectations on a standardized
test, as defined in administrative procedures.
The students must be enrolled in the reading
course upon entry into District 219 or, if the
classes are filled, as soon as possible, but
before graduation from District 219. - Science - Four (4) credits in Laboratory Science
which consists of two (2) credits in Physical
Science and two (2) credits in Life Science.
Physical Science courses are Integrated Lab
Science, Chemistry, and Physics. The Life
Science course is Biology. - Social Studies - Six (6) credits which consist of
two (2) credits in Freshman Social Studies
(Global Studies previously called People and
Their Cultures), two (2) credits in U.S. History,
one (1) credit in Western Civilization, and one
(1) credit in Social Science (all other Social
Studies electives). AP students successfully
completing two semesters of AP European History
satisfy the requirement in Western Civilization
and the one semester of Social Science. - PSAE Students must take the Prairie State
Achievement Examination unless exempt or unable
to participate. - Physical Education Students must earn one (1)
credit for each semester in attendance at a Niles
Township High School.
