and Director of the PETROCI Analyses and Research
    since October 2 005
  • Master of Sciences( Post Graduate Diploma
Geology option biostratigraphy obtained at the
university Pierre et Marie) at Jussieu Paris 6
  • one year of specialization in  palynostratigaphy
at the university of Provence Marseille
    University
  • 1986, create PETROCI geological laboratory.

4
  • Promoted as Deputy Director of Exploration from
1995 to 1998, after 9 years in the laboratory.
  • Responsable of the conception and the
coordination of the geology, geophysic and
    laboratory studies

II- PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
  • A- ACADEMIC AND PRIVATE LIFE  as student, woman
    and mother
  • as student, woman and mother
  • numerous constraints
  • Fiel dtrip research works,
  • laboratory works,
  • constant journeys
  • make the conciliation of woman life and normal
    mother is not always evident.
  •

6
  • As student in geosciences
  • In the 70s, the orientation of a girl in
geology recovered from the utopia in Côte
    dIvoire
  • Geological sciences are considered as being man
    job
  • Chosing such a discipline is considered as
    pretention for girls

7
  • As woman and mother
  • Delayed studies (pregnancies,)
  • Misunderstanding in the familly for some crucial
    decisions
  • Constant unavailability - little time dedicated
    to children

8
  • B- PROFESSIONAL LIFE
  • As first woman geologist in an African petroleum
    company
  • Difficult beginnings and constant frustrations
  • Problems of caoching
  • Refusal of sending a woman on the offshore rig
  • Implicit Refusal of any collaboration from the
    elder geoscientists
  • Implicit refusal to train the women
  • Hesitation of the technical direction
(management) towards the evolution or promotion
    of women within the company
  • Indifference, scorn, systematic refusal of
    ideas, researches, innovative projects, in
particular the proposition of the creation of
    laboratory at PETROCI
  • Hesitation of certain collaborators to work under
the authority of a woman in the domain.

9
III- CHALLENGES REQUIREMENTS AND HARDWORK TO
ACHIEVE A SUCCESSFULL CAREER
  • The major challenge
  • Force the respect as only woman geologist in the
company by the hard work and abnegation.

11
  • Challenges
  • Make accept the idea of sending the women on the
    offshore rig
  • Make admit the utility of a laboratory in the
    company
  • Make accept the idea of its creation by concrete
    acts
  • Elaborate illustrated catalog used as guide
    documents for biostratigraphical analyses
  • Give more visibility to the Managers on the
importance and the utility of laboratory in
    petroleum Exploration.

12
  • Fight to obtain the effective creation of the
    laboratory and its promotion
  • Elaborate presentations and publications of the
    biostratigraphy analyses results for better
knowledge of the ivorian sedimentary basin
  • Contribute to the progress of the research in
    geosciences
  • Conceive and create a laboratory of petroleum
    products analyses and controls
  • Create an unit of petrophysic study in a near
    future

13
  • Result of efforts
  • A laboratory of international fame

14
  • Old building

15
  • Current laboratory

16
LABORATORY AIMS
  • Ensure a better geological understanding of the
basin, in fields such as sedimentology,
  • biostratigraphy, geochemistry, in order to prove
    the presence of hydrocarbon.
  • Preserve data from the sedimentary basin
  • Ensure confidentiality of data by analysing
samples, and therefore reduce coats of having
    them analysed abroad.
  • Promote local and national competences
  • Diversify services, based on qualified personal
    and high technology materials.

  • 1/ Director
  • 2/ Advisors
  • 3/ Departments
  • 4/ Services

  • three axes of research targeted to achieve its
    objectives
  • The sedimentology
  • The organic geochemistry
  • The biostratigraphy

23
Today 100 wells Out of the 211 drilled in the
ivorian sedimentary basin have been studied by
PETROCI laboratory
24
Since 1995PETROCI Laboratory is in charge of
all the samples catching on the rigs. PETROCI
Laboratory provides services to petroleum
operators
25
  • Ambition of PETROCI Laboratory
  • Become in very short-term a service provider in
    the sub region.

the African Association of women in geosciences
    next 11- 17 April, 2010 in Grand-Bassam Côte
    dIvoire .

  •  Exchanges, journeys and meetings that have
    given me an important open-minded

  • Chevalier de lOrdre National du Mérite du
    Travail

28
V- RECOMMENDATIONS
  • Get ready to work more than men who directly will
    minimize you as woman geoscientist
  • (in consideration of the misogynous
character of the sectors of the geology and the
    oil research)
  • Accept the decision of the management whatever it
    may cost you.

29
VI. ACKOWLEDGEMENTS
  • Many thanks to the headquarter of UNESCO and to
the Chinese Organizing Committee for having
