2Positional Sanctification/Justification is a work
of God and is based on faith alone.
Experiential Sanctification is a work of man
and God and is achieved by faith plus works.
3ALL DISCIPLES ARE BELIEVERS BUT NOT ALL BELIEVERS
ARE DISCIPLES..
DISCIPLES TAKE THE OTHERS TAKE THE
HIGH ROAD
LOW ROAD
4Matthew 1624-26, Then Jesus said to His
disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me,
let him deny himself, v.23 and take up his cross,
and follow Me. 25 "For whoever wishes to save
his life shall lose it but whoever loses his
life for My sake shall find it. 26 For what is a
man profited, if he shall gain the whole world,
and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give
in exchange for his soul?
5Both life and soul are translated from the
same Greek word PSUCHE (yuch). The phrase, save
a soul is never used salvifically in the
Bible. PSUCHE The nonmaterial inner life of
human beings for which the body serves as a
dwelling place soul, inner self.
6These verses are NOT about eternal
salvation! Eternal salvation and discipleship
are separate issues, eternal salvation is free,
but discipleship is costly. In salvation,
Christ paid the price In
discipleship, the believer pays the
price. Eternal salvation determines eternal
destiny discipleship determines temporal and
eternal rewards. The sinners willingness to
work or to suffer are not conditions of
justification/eternal salv.
7Matt. 1624-26, Then Jesus said to His
disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me,
let him deny himself, deny his own desires and
take up his cross, living for Christ instead of
self and follow Me Christs example of
suffering. 25 "For whoever wishes to save his
life live for self shall lose it H but
whoever loses his life for My sake lives for
Christ shall find it H. 26 For what is a
man profited, if he shall gain the whole world
acquire everything by his own means, and lose
his own soul? forfeit true life or what shall a
man give in exchange for his soul?
8What He appears to be saying is this Whoever
decides to avoid the hardships of self-denial and
cross-bearing will in fact forfeit the essential
quality of the life he is trying to gain. On the
other hand, whoever submits himself to God by
self-denial and hardships will discover the
greater essential quality of life he was willing
to give up. This interpretation would therefore
not describe eternal salvation, but a higher
quality of experience with God in this life.
9James 119, This you know my beloved brethren
. . .
James 121, Therefore putting aside all
filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in
humility receive (imp) the word implanted, which
is able to save your souls. EMPHUTOS emfutws
(adj. asm) to germinate, to
grow, spring up, produce James 122 But prove
yourselves doers of the word, and not merely
hearers who delude themselves.
10Many passages in the Bible use a figure of speech
called a metonymy (substituting one word for
another, soul stands for the whole person). By
analogy, when someone says, All hands on deck!
the speaker wants bodies attached to the hands.
Save your souls stands for saving the lives of
wandering believers. In this passage, the meaning
is to save the persons life from physical death.

11James 214, What use is it, my brethren, if a
man says he has faith, but he has no works? Can
that faith save him?
- James 520, he who turns a sinner from the
error of his way will save his soul from death,
and will cover a multitude of sins.
The word save in James deals exclusively with
the phase-two deliverance of the believer.
experiential sanctification taking the
high road
12James urged his regenerate brethren to use the
Word in order to save their lives from the deadly
power and consequences of sin and
indifference. The book of James is a lifesaver,
not a ball-and-chain type of litmus test for
ascertaining whether or not one has believed the
gospel with the right kind of faith.
13Romans 109-10, that if you confess with your
mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart
that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be
saved 10 for with the heart man believes,
resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he
confesses, resulting in salvation.
142 Peter 110, Therefore, brethren, be all the
more diligent to make certain about His calling
and choosing/election you for as long as you
practice these things, you will never stumble
