Title: MLA Citations
1MLA Citations General Rules Exceptions And
Practice
2A Few Notes on MLA The Modern Language
Association (MLA) Style is widely used for
identifying research sources. In MLA style you
briefly credit sources with parenthetical
citations in the text of your paper, and give the
complete description of each source in your Works
Cited list. The Works Cited list, or
Bibliography, is a list of all the sources used
in your paper, arranged alphabetically by
author's last name, or when there is no author,
by the first word of the title (except A, An or
The).
3MLA is All About Crediting the Author
4- General Rules of MLA in-text citation (also
called parenthetical citation) - Name the Author either in the sentence or in
parenthetical - Include a page reference. No p. precedes the
number. (Green 32) - Do not include long URLs in parentheses.
- If no author is available cite the title
5- More about In-Text Citation
- If author is named in the sentence, then only
include the page number. Exp - As Green states, record deals were
usually negotiated by middlemen (127). - Punctuation belongs outside the parentheses, the
citation is part of the sentence. - There is no comma between author name and pg
(Green 127).
