    tourism development which contributes to the
    conservation of the physical environment and the
    social and economic welfare of the community in
    the Gambia.

Influencing policy
  • The quality of the retail experience needs to be
    improved, through product development and further
    support from the GTA. The self-regulatory Codes
    of Conduct utilised by members of ASSET appear
    to be working well in terms of ensuring
    reasonably clean and pleasant conditions for
    informal retail outlets.
  • Working with the informal sector through ASSET
    demonstrates an open and transparent interaction,
    allowing its members to self-regulate, gain
    access to resources, such as training, and should
    not be seen as a threat, but rather as a positive
    interaction vital to maintaining the high level
    of out-of-pocket expenditure seen in The Gambia.
