3Opening
- Welcome everyone to the annual report for OGC
2004. I've decided to make this a presentation so
we have an actual record to look back on in the
future. - Were in the sixth year of OGC, one hell of an
achievement in my opinion and thanks to everyone
who has joined since the clubs founding in 1999
and to those still with us. Lets keep building on
what we have. - Take your time to look through this presentation,
I've done it in this format so you can imagine
what it would be like in a big hall with loads of
people, and me and a few others reading and
elaborating on each point. You never know, maybe
one day that will be a reality. - Any further questions just contact me at some
point, now on with the show ?
4Year Summary

and Simon Gray elected

generally deemed a success to be repeated

Mike Brandon - WH Tournament Success won by Simon Gray
- First Magic Tournament Big success won by
Mark Berkley

members to remain networked together
- October- Loss of OGC New Arena OGC goes
underground
- November- Second senior elections Luke
Greensmith and Simon Gray re-elected

Dead
5Website
- This is principally the big thing OGC had been
waiting for, and in September it was finally
realised with the launch of ogc.org.uk
The main aims of the website were too
Create a network too keep all members in contact
with each other
To create a place to publish all the unseen OGC
material
Create awareness for the club, through accessible
impressive media
The website has been successful in meeting all of
these criteria. In terms of the future, keep
using the website, reading what's on their,
posting on the message boards and suggesting
improvements. And most importantly spread the
word, a simple poster campaign in your area will
be highly effective.
6Membership
- Increasing membership is a constant goal of OGC,
but it is not easily attained. How do we get the
word of OGC out to people and more importantly
how do we get people to our events?
In 2004 membership remained at a constant, some
left while others joined
In the future we should look to slowly increase
membership in a similar vein to as we have done
in the past.
It is too difficult to consolidate a boost in
numbers and get them to OGC events, especially
with the loss of the New Arena
However a select few, should be able to slowly
stimulate the club. Hopefully filling up all of
the OGC events for 2005, this method should keep
the club tight whilst slowly spreading the roots.
It will ensure that everyone involved is known to
one another and is happy with the situation of
the club. Maybe in the future we can think big,
but for now we must play the cards we have.
As an objective I would like to see the club
reach 12-15 members by the November 2005 senior
elections. Then we will see voting for a third
senior and the club as a while should be wholly
better. Its up to everyone to work on this so
dont fail our club!
7Gaming
- 40k gaming statistics 2004
How do these statistics compare?
Fantasy gaming statistics 2004
There were only 4 games played outside of
Tournament time in the entire year!
As you can see, an overall improvement in gaming
in 2004. As to what effect the loss of the New
Arena has in 2005 remains to be seen but the
downturn in gaming from September onwards is an
ill omen.
8Tournament Review
This years Tournament was our 2nd smallest in
terms of entrants ever. However the figures
should not be disheartening as personally I
believe that this Tournament was the best since
the legendary T-2000. We had 5 solid entrants
plus a few absentees from the usual suspects. In
effect, for Tournament 2005 I really want to see
the figure pushed up to 8, its the figure thats
eluded us so many times, so lets see if we can do
it!
- 5 entrants Group / Knockout
- 6 entrants Knockout
- 7 entrants Group / Knockout
- 4 entrants Knockout
- 7 entrants Group / Knockout
- 1999 7 entrants Knockout
Basically this ran exactly like 2003 but with one
extra player. Thats positive progress so Ill
leave it by simply saying, 6 players for next
year!
Also the painting competition was a success and
we got some decent and competitive entries this
time. This is something people outside the club
can get involved on so spread the word in the
build up for T-2005. In addition the Magic
Tournament was a great success and will certainly
be repeated next year. Also should we do another
Fringe Tournament..
Fantasy Tournament
Where to stage the next Tournament? Basically,
the big issue concerning the Tournament is
getting everyone to turn up on the right days,
and this can cause all sorts of stress. So next
year we aim to do each Tournament on a weekend.
Ideas are..
Book a BB for a weekend would be best option
but probably too expensive Make use of a hall,
camp out and pub in the evenings and game in the
day cheap Continue as we have done probably
too awkward and not possible without an Arena
9December Event review
- Event Standing the Dead (27th December 2004),
basically a huge Tyranid force taking on a few
fortified Imperial defenders
- Venue Heskin Village Hall, decent enough venue
but proved difficult to get to lack of
accessible public transport, remoteness etc
- Participants Though at least eight were
promised only five played in the actual event.
These included two non-members. Reasons for low
turn out included Date (too close to Xmas),
Accessibility
- Lessons learned - Change date, many people
are away / working in this period - - Venue, though cheap and decent enough, need
to make sure anyone can access it by any
means
- The actual game itself though worked well enough,
any ideas for next year?
10Finance
- I do not wish to say too much on this account, as
finance has always been scarce and unnecessary
for the club. But there are a few points to be
raised
Members should continue the present system of
contribution by way of physical means. This way
the club gains what members actually want and
does not put stress on people with the irritable
rattle of money tins
The OGC savings account is at present a little
far fetched though it most certainly is an option
to be considered once OGC reaches a decade in age
All in all OGC must remain a non profit club. It
must never charge members anything (unless there
is a real event charge like paintball or if we
hire a BB etc). OGC operates on sacrifice for
communal gain, for example my painstaking writing
of this report. Or Simon building scenery, or
Brown buying it, or Charly building the website.
These are all sacrifices that everyone benefits
from.
VIVA the cult of OGC!!!!!
11Looking to 2005
- All in all Id say that its been a good year for
OGC. But we cannot rest on our laurels, and there
are a number of issues which must be pursued if
we are to continue on our path.
Seniors The first term was somewhat uneventful
but thats certain to change. The Seniors are
going to be very important in the coming months,
and if we aren't meeting are objectives by April,
I guess you all know what to do ) Seriously
though, we need a big effort from the Seniors,
and everyone else
Members Perhaps as opposed to piling on more
members we should address the Tournament
objectives. If we reach he numbers suggested
then we are definitely doing well.
Venue How do we get normal gaming in? Thanks
too Charly we've got a temporary home there but
we need to make arrangements to accommodate
others. My thoughts go to travel OGC, just call
me up and Ill be there with some basic rules and
scenery. If you want to play In the best
environment possible though, then arrange a game
at Charlys.
And finally a list of the planned events for
2005 April Senior Electrons Summer Paintball,
OGCamp Tournament 2005 40k, Warhammer, Magic,
Painting (Fringe?) Winter End of Year event,
Senior Elections More will follow depending on
requests and ideas!
