Prefiguring Jesus
  • The Old Testament always points to the New
    Testament.
  • Most importantly, the Old Testament reveals that
Jesus is coming and is a guide for us to know the
Son of God when He comes.
  • That is why many events of the Old Testament
foreshadow, predict, or point us towards Jesus
    life to come.
  • This is called prefiguring.

7
Abraham prefigures Mary
  • Abraham was full of faith, trust, and obedience.
  • Abraham said Yes to God even though it might
    cost him everything.
  • Mary was full of grace, faith, trust, and
    obedience.
  • Mary said Yes to God and accepted Jesus in her
    womb.
  • This meant of road of danger, sacrifice, and
hardship for Mary. But love trumped everything.
  • Mother Theresa Said, Love isnt love until it
    hurts.

8
Jacob finally has Isaac
  • Abraham begged God for a Son and didnt have one
    until his old age.
  • He knew that he would not have another and loved
Isaac with all of his heart.
  • Isaac was the answer to Gods promise to Abraham
    of countless descendants.
  • Isaac was the hope that Gods promise was true.

9
Similarities between the sacrifice of Isaac and
Jesus
  • Only begotten son is sacrificed
  • Sacrificed by the father
  • The son carried the wood for the sacrifice
  • The son is the Lamb for the sacrifice
  • The son rose from the sacrifice
  • Through the sacrifice eternal life is shared
  • Location of sacrifice Isaac (mountain of
Moriah) Jesus (Calvary is on the plains of
    Moriah).

10
Jacob
  • Jacob was twins with Esau
  • When they were born Esau was born first and
deserved all the rights of inheritance.
  • Jacob held on to Esaus heel and delivered right
    behind his brother.
  • Esau did not care for his birthright and Isaac
bought it from him for some simple food.
  • Both men shared everything but the first failed
to keep his birthright and blessing and the
second came behind to secure it for all
    generations

11
Jacob and Jesus
  • Adam did not care for his birthright in the
Garden of Eden and sold it for some simple food.
  • Because of this, Adams blessings would be taken
    from him.
  • Jesus would come after Adam as Jacob came after
    Esau.
  • Jesus would buy our birthright and would regain
    the lost blessings for us.
  • Jacob also married two women, Leah and Rebekkah.
  • Leah represents the Old Covenant and Rebekkah the
    new. Jacob loved Rebekkah more.

12
Joseph
  • Jacobs son Joseph was his favorite and he
    blessed him.
  • His brothers were jealous and sold him into
slavery in Egypt for 20 pieces of silver.
  • Joseph rose to rule the country only under
    Pharaoh.
  • When his brothers came back, Joseph offered them
    forgiveness and salvation from starvation.

13
Joseph and Jesus
  • Jesus was sold by a close friend to his death for
    30 pieces of silver.
  • It was only after He was sold that Jesus was
    named King of the Jews.
  • It was through Jesus that all of his brothers and
    sisters would find forgiveness.
  • It is through Jesus that our true salvation is
given and the true promised land.

14
Closing Prayer
