Seligman Learned Helplessness Theory
  • The Seligman learned Hypothesis Theory was
founded by Abramson Et Al in 1978.
  • They did this by focusing on people that have
    experienced or are experiencing learned
    helplessness.
  • They argued that People respond in various ways.

3
  • People either attribute to a failure within ones
self and also in other people and circumstances.
An example of an internal reason is a partner has
split up with you because of your moodiness. An
example of your external reason is that you have
    little money for nice things.

4
  • People either attribute to failure to a stable
cause something that will continue in the future.
Or in an unstable cause, Something that could
    easily change.
  • An example may be that exams are coming up that
    is the unstable part.

5
  • People either attribute to the failure to a
global cause, which is basically applying to a
wide range of situation or to a specific cause,
which is applying to one situation.
  • An example of a global cause is that you are
    moody with everyone
  • An example of an specific cause be with a
partner, you felt that they dont love you.

6
  • People with learned helplessness feel personally
responsible for their failure( internal, stable
    and global causes)
  • They feel that reasons for their failure will
carry on and continue to fail in the future and
    influence other situations
  • With all of these negative thoughts there is no
wonder that people with learned helplessness are
    Depressed
