- The Nottingham Arabidopsis Stock Centre began in
Spring 1991 as the natural successor to the
German AIS (Arabidopsis Information Service). - Our first major international customer was the
ABRC (Arabidopsis Biological Resource Center) in
the US with whom we exchanged the whole
collection of 200 lines as part of 1200 seed
stocks sent in our first year. The ABRC then
opened for business in September 1991. - Since 1991, NASC and ABRC have co-operatively
served the world Arabidopsis community as sister
organisations. - NASC services European and worldwide Arabidopsis
communities. Users of the Stock centres are
affiliated according to where they are based as a
result of an agreement with our sister
organisation, ABRC in the US such that they
service the Americas. Between us we then provide
coverage for the rest of the world according to
user-choice. - Most of our donors are from the UK and the US
although we do have a large number of donations
from a variety of other nationalities as
displayed on the chart below. - If you have seed to donate please contact either

SEEDS Donated to NASC
A sample of the original donation of seeds is
dried to 5-7 moisture content and stored at
-20C and stored as archival stock
Large donations in sufficient quantity can be
released immediately
From donation to distribution
Stocks are sorted, barcoded and transferred to
our custom built low temperature and low humidity
storage room
Low quantity stocks are bulked (or re-bulked)
under conditions of maximal separation from all
other lines for quality control purposes
A sample is frozen for the archives
50 of each seed bulk is shared with ABRC in Ohio
for American users
We correlate orders with seed stocks process any
Material Transfer Agreements triple pack the
seeds for GMO security against accidental release
and then finally send the seeds to our users
