To begin keyboarding your paragraph
  • Start Microsoft Word
  • Start / Programs / Microsoft Word

  • The ruler
  • The Status Bar

Non-Printing Characters
  • Certain characters do not print but do affect the
    document layout.
  • Press on the Standard Toolbar to
  • Turn them on
  • or
  • Turn them off
  • You see these characters
  • When you press the Tab key
  • ? When you press the spacebar
  • When you press the Enter key

Save Your Document
  • File/Save As
  • Give the file a name by typing in the File Name
    box type your name, first and last no periods
  • Choose where to save the file Choose Desktop
    and double-click on the Paragraphs folder

Start Keyboarding Your Paragraph
  • One space between words, two spaces between
    sentences, double space between paragraphs (Press
    Enter twice)
  • Press the Tab key to indent 5 spaces (dont use
    the spacebar to insert five spaces)
  • If you make a mistake, use the backspace key or
    the delete key (backspace removes characters to
    the left, delete removes characters to the right
    of the insertion point)

  • Type
  • your name
  • class period
  • Paragraph Assignment
  • Teacher - pressing Enter after each line (you
    should have four lines)
  • Press Enter 3 times

  • Type the Title of your paragraph
  • Press Enter 2 times
  • Type your paragraph letting it wrap around by
    itself do not press Enter at the end of each
    line
  • Save your document
  • Ctrl S or click on the Save button

  • Spell check your document
  • Click the Spelling Grammar button on the
    Standard Toolbar
  • Or press the F7 key

Format Your Paragraph
  • Select All
  • Edit/Select All or Ctrl A
  • Choose Times New Roman from the Font drop down
    list
  • Choose 18 points from the Font Size drop down list

  • Right align the four lines at the top of your
    document
  • Select the four lines by highlighting
  • Click the right align button on the Formatting
    Toolbar or press Ctrl R
  • Center and Bold the title
  • Select the title
  • Click the center button on the Formatting Toolbar
    or press Ctrl E
  • Click the Bold button on the Formatting Toolbar
    or press Ctrl B

  • Choose a color for the title
  • Select the title if it is not already selected
  • Click the down arrow next to the Font Color
    button on the Formatting Toolbar and choose a
    different color (not too light a color or it
    wont show up)

  • Make the title bigger
  • Select the tile if it is not already selected
  • Choose 20 from the drop down Font Size arrow on
    the Formatting Toolbar
  • Double space paragraph text
  • Select your paragraph by clicking and dragging
    with your mouse or by triple clicking in your
    paragraph
  • Press Ctrl 2

Make Your Paragraph Exciting
  • Choose a picture to place in your document
  • Click Insert/Picture/Clip Art or Clips Online if
    you cant find a picture in the Clip Gallery
  • Click on a category or type in a descriptive word
    in the text box and press Enter
  • Click Insert to insert the picture or graphic
    into your document
  • Choose Text Wrapping on the Picture Toolbar (if
    it is not visible when you click on your graphic,
    choose View/Toolbars/Picture)
  • Choose Tight or Square to make your text wrap
    around the picture

Make Your Paragraph Exciting
  • Choose a border to place around your document
  • Choose Format/Borders and Shading
  • Select the Page Border tab at the top of the
    dialog box
  • Click the drop down arrow next to Art
  • Choose a border
  • Click the Options button
  • Choose the drop down arrow next to Measure From
    and choose Text

Finishing Up
  • Save your work
  • Ctrl S to save
  • Or click the Save Button on the Standard Toolbar
  • Exit Microsoft Word
  • Click the X in the upper right corner of the Word
    window
  • If a dialog box asks you if you want to save,
    choose Yes
