CONVENTION OF THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD

• Article 19
• 1. States Parties shall take all appropriate
  legislative, administrative, social and
  educational measures to protect the child from
  all forms of physical or mental violence, injury
  or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment,
  maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual
  abuse, while in the care of parent(s), legal
  guardian(s) or any other person who has the care
  of the child.

• 'I haven't been to school for two days because
  I'm afraid that people will see the bruises on my
  arms in PE.'
• Sexual abuse is...
• 'I thought for a long time that what was
  happening was OK because Dad said it was a game
  that all fathers played with their sons, a secret
  game that only the men knew about.'
• Emotional abuse is...
• 'I'm in care and I'm always being moved between
  foster homes. I feel unloved and unsettled.'

• Neglect is...
• 'My mum and dad both have drinking problems.
  Sometimes there's nothing to eat in the house.
  And I'm often left alone to look after my
  brothers and sisters.'

SOME FACTS

• in the last 3 years over 23,000 children and
  young people
• over 20 individuals are abused every day.

WHAT ABOUT HUNGARY?

• Hungary is one of the most dangerous places in
  the world.
• 30 children die from physical child abuse or
  neglect every year it is 2 kids per month on
  average.
• 2 children die under 15, on average, every month
• 125 children are physically abused every year.
• 45 children were sexually abused in 2001
• It is estimated that thousands of cases are kept
  in secret.
